Buckwheat Pillow

A buckwheat pillow has many health advantages over a standard pillow. While buckwheat is probably best known mostly as a nutritious grain to eat, it is actually related to the rhubarb family. It does not contain wheat as some might think from it’s name. All that being said, buckwheat makes a great and comfortable filler for pillows.

The best pillows are those made of organic buckwheat. It’s best and healthiest to sleep next to pillows that don’t contain pesticides or harsh chemicals. The liver and brain is especially vulnerable to chemical exposures. The hulls used should be either roasted or triple-air cleaned. This removes any field dust from the grains which eliminates the chance of having an allergic reaction to the pillow.

The best pillows are also covered in certified organic cotton which also makes them non-allergenic and free of chemical residues.

The buckwheat hulls also move around easily and conform to your head and neck making them very comfortable and supportive. They come in many different shapes and sizes. You can even get a body-sized pillow or travel pillow if you like!

These healthy pillows also allow for air circulation which helps in keeping the pillow and you at a comfortable temperature.

Care of pillows made of buckwheat include the following:

Avoid moisture or getting the pillows wet. This causes the grains to become slimy and moldy. The outer cover can be washed. Airing the pillow in the sun for a few hours every few months will keep it clean since the UV rays kill most germs. A good buckwheat pillow should last 7-10 years and it will not accumulate dust mites like most standard pillows.
